The First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Ntchisi has sentenced Village headman Maguya to 8 years in prison with hard labour for defiling his 12-year-old daughter in-law.
According to Police, Village headman Maguya defiled the girl on 12th May this year at Kawaza Village in the area Traditional Authority Malenga in the district.
Public Relations Officer in Ntchisi Gladson Mbumpha said the incident happened when the girl had gone to drink water at the sitting room where the convict was sleeping.
The convict gave the victim K100 and promised to buy clothes in order to silence her.
Medical examinations at Ntchisi District Hospital revealed that the girl was indeed defiled.
Passing judgment, First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua said the convict being a village headman deserves a stiff sentence to deter other would be offenders.
Village headman Maguya hails from Maguya village in the area of Traditional Authority Malenga in the district.
