RULING IN MULUZI’s MK1.7 BILLION CORRUPTION CASE DIFFERED

Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda has differed his ruling to a later date on a corruption case involving former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi and some United Democratic Front (UDF) officials.

Muluzi and his co-accused Lyness Nyirenda are being accused of miss appropriating money amounting to MK1.7 billion from donors meant for development.

Muluzi through his lawyer asked the High Court to refer the case to Constitution court, saying the case was political in nature, accusing late Bingu wa Mutharika of being behind the case

Muluzi also accused the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of being used by the State.

Last month, Nyirenda deferred hearing of the constitutional application by Muluzi due to what he called failure by the State and defence to clarify some legal issues.

Meanwhile it is not known as to when the case will resume.
