EIGHT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FROM DRC ARRESTED IN LL

Police in Lilongwe on Sunday arrested eight people from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for entering the country illegally.

Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO) Inspector Kingsley Dandaula confirmed of the arrest in an interview on Monday that the suspects were coming from Zambia using unchartered routes to Malawi when police intercepted them.

“It was around 16:30 hours when the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers intercepted the suspects at Game Stores Shopping Mall in Lilongwe after a tip from well-wishers,” said Dandaula.

He said Police have also arrested 25 year-old Alex Mbewe from M’ngulo Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Zulu in Mchinji district for transporting the suspects from M’chinji to Lilongwe.

The police publicist said among the illegal immigrants were children aged three, four and a six-months-old baby.Mana
