A Police officer in the central District of Mchinji has committed suicide by shooting himself while on duty leaving behind a suicide note.

Mchinji Police spokesperson Sub- Inspector Moses Kajawa Nyirenda confirmed of the development in an interview and identified the deceased officer as Constable Allan Chione.

According to Nyirenda, on the fateful day the deceased who was on duty with a friend moved away from him and committed suicide within Mchinji police station premises around 6pm.

“Chioni was on duty from 7am to 4pm on Thursday but he didn’t knock off, he stayed at the Police station up to 6pm when he shot himself in the head and died on spot,” said Nyirenda.

Nyirenda also disclosed that the deceased left a suicide note which will be delivered to the believed family and he denied giving more details of what is contained in the suicide note.

Close sources who confided to FaceofMalawi says the Police officer committed suicide after realizing that his wife has been taken ARVs without his knowledge.

The body of late Constable Allan Chione is kept at Mchinji District Hospital.

Chione hails from from Mphelele village in the area of traditional authority Nthalire in Chitipa district.
