HEADMASTER, FEMALE TEACHER FILMED BY PUPIL HAVING SEX IN OFFICE

A headmaster and a chemistry teacher face being struck off after a pupil posted a recording of one of their secret sex sessions online.

Graham Daniels, 51, and Bethan Thomas, 37, were heard ‘moaning and panting’ from behind a locked door at the school where they both worked.

The couple – both married to other people – swiftly became figures of fun at the comprehensive as their affair distracted pupils and caused results to suffer, it was claimed.

In one instance, a 14-year-old boy was disciplined after making ‘sex noises’ while assistant headteacher Thomas’s back was turned in class, a disciplinary hearing was told.

The school was even forced to hold a special assembly to tell pupils to ignore the scandal and focus on their exams.

The couple were caught in the act several times by both staff and pupils at the school in Swansea, the hearing was told.

But their affair was fully exposed when a 15-year-old boy used his mobile phone to record footage of the headmaster’s door, from behind which heavy breathing and other suggestive noises could be heard.

The teachers both resigned last year after the 27-second video was uploaded to Facebook and YouTube, where it was seen thousands of times.

Yesterday, the pair admitted unacceptable professional conduct at a fitness to practice hearing of the Education Workforce Council in Cardiff.

The hearing was told the affair became ‘common knowledge’ at Bryn Tawe, a Welsh-language secondary school.

It was such a scandal that pupils could not concentrate and it affected their grades, other teachers complained.

The school’s current deputy head Graham Jenkins told the hearing: ‘Graham and Bethan had a close relationship, I had expressed my concerns to him about the amount of time they were spending together. When I told Bethan that one of the pupils had made a sex movie of what was going on she said, “I have made my bed”.’

He added: ‘The video caused disruption even though it was removed from the social networking sites.

‘Staff found it difficult to get the children to concentrate during exam revision sessions … there was always innuendo, pupils making comments or references to the video.

‘There was a drop in GCSE exam results – they were not as good as in previous years. Ten pupils did not get their predicted results.’

Head of art Rhian Thomas said she walked in on the couple in the headmaster’s study when she went to ask him for compassionate leave after a death in the family.

She told the hearing: ‘They both looked startled to see me. I noticed the blinds were down and Bethan was pulling her skirt down at the back.

‘I had interrupted something between them. I expected Bethan to leave but she didn’t.’ When asked about the online footage, she said: ‘You can tell it was sexual noises and worse still I could hear it was Bethan’s voice.’

The school’s exam officer, Rhian Davies, described how she let herself into a locked room to find the couple inside.

She said: ‘Bethan was standing by a screen, flushed in the face, and Graham’s hands were shaking.’

Susan Lewis, administrative officer at the 750-pupil school, told the hearing she could see into the headmaster’s study from her office, but only spotted the couple’s legs and feet. She said: ‘I could see Graham and Bethan’s legs … they were leaning against a door preventing anyone from entering.

‘I went to his office one day in October 2013 and knocked before entering … I saw Graham and Bethan kissing over a desk. It was not just a peck on the cheek, it was more of a snog.’

Daniels and Thomas were said to be ‘close’, with pupils claiming to have seen them at a local McDonald’s together.

The couple were nicknamed ‘Team GB’ due to the initials of their first names, the hearing was told. A text message sent by one pupil to another read: ‘Guess who is here. OMG, yes, Team GB. They must be at it in his office.’

Presenting officer Louise Price described how Thomas was seen sitting in a ‘provocative manner’ opposite Daniels, her skirt hitched up high.

Daniels, of Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, admitted taking part in a sexual act in his office with another member of staff. He also admitted exposing pupils to his sexual behaviour with Thomas.

Thomas, of Swansea, who was known at the school by her married name of Bale, admitted the same charges.

However, both denied inappropriate behaviour and sexual acts which were directly witnessed by staff or pupils.
