POLICE ARREST SIX PEOPLE IN DEDZA FOR POSSESSING FAKE FOREIGN CURRENCY

Police in Dedza are keeping in custody six suspects for committing the offence of Uttering false document and illegal possession of fake currency. This occurred recently at Dedza boarder post.

According to Dedza Fiscal and Fraud Section officer, Superintendent Sterra Chikuse, the six suspects are identified as Evance Lembani, aged 35 of Thandazo village, Tradition Authority Mwadzama in Nkhotakota district, Steven Lucas Namondwe, aged 37 of Namwanda, Tradition Authority Nsabwe in Thyolo district, James Leman, aged 21 of Kapachika village, Traditional Authority Njewa in Lilongwe district, Salina Aisha Ndemanga, aged 25 of Gaga village, Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe district, Juma Adam, aged 25 of Mdzumira village, Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe district and Dyless Thawe, aged 27 of Mng’ona, Traditional Authority Mkumbira in Nkhatabay district.

On the material day Chikuse and other officers were on duty searching passengers on board of Intercape Bus when they found the suspects with fake receipts from the bank and cash R43,750, R3,900, R3,050, R3,000, R3,000 and R3,000 respectively.

According to Chikuse, the suspects have been charged with the offence of Uttering false document and illegal possession of fake currency.

The suspects will appear in court soon.
