NEW CURRICULUM ROLES OUT IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN MALAWI

As the 2015/16 academic calendar begins, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has said all is set for the commencement of the New Secondary School Curriculum in all Secondary schools in the country.

This has been disclosed in a press statement released by the Ministry made available to FaceofMalawi.

In the statement, the Ministry has advised all schools across the country to start implementing the New Curriculum in all the subject areas except where facilities for a particular subject are not available.

The statement further says that, Chemistry and Physics shall be taught in all National Secondary Schools (24), District Boarding Schools (43), District Day (48), City Day (11), upgraded CDSSs (12) and non-upgraded CDSSs (200) which will be given science kits.

“All government secondary schools shall be given a minimum package of the required teaching and learning materials within the first term and that in addition to what Government will provide, schools are encouraged to buy more materials using the school book fund.

“Private schools are expected to procure their teaching and learning materials from the open market because books are now being published and printed by the private sector without any control from government other than the pre-printing selection of manuscripts conducted by the Malawi Institute of Education,” reads in part the statement.

Meanwhile the Ministry has urged all secondary schools offering the Malawi government curriculum to adhere to these guidelines.
