THREE NABBED FOR SELLING HUMAN PLACENTA IN LL

Police in Lilongwe on Saturday arrested three people for allegedly being found in possession of a human placenta.

Lilongwe Police Deputy Commissioner who is also the Officer In-charge James Munthali confirmed of the development in an interview and suspects as Kamdon Zifa (69), Samuel Phiri (21) and James Banda (37).

According to Munthali, the trio were captured after his officers successfully followed an abominable tip off which they received from a patriotic citizen that some people were offering for sale the human body tissue hence their arrests.

He said the three were intercepted at area 2 within the main commercial area of Lilongwe city while in possession of the human placenta.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the trio got the tissue from a Traditional Birth Attendant within the same district which has prompted broader investigations into the atrocity.

All the suspects have been formally charged with a case of being found in possession of human body tissue which is contrary to section 16 (A) CAP 34:05 of Anatomy Act.

The suspects Kamdoni Zifa who hails from Kanjedza village T/A Chadza district Lilongwe, Samuel Phiri who hails from Kwatire while James Banda comes from Mchoke villages both from the area of T/A Ndindi in Salima district will appear before court soon to answer the charge leveled against them.
