TWO TONNES OF CHAMBA DESTROYED BY POLICE IN KASUNGU

Police in Kasungu District have burnt about two and half tonnes of Cannabis sativa popularly known as Chamba.

The exercise was done together with the Kasungu Magistrate Court.

Kasungu Police Publicist Inspector Edwin Kaunda on Monday told Malawi News Agency Mana that the Cannabis sativa was confiscated from Mbiriyakula Maliko and his two friends at Kalenga Trading Centre in the Area of Traditional Authority Wimbe.

The three were already convicted and fined by the Kasungu Magistrate Court a few months ago and were fined K50, 000 each for possessing Cannabis sativa.

Kaunda said the other consignment was found at the Police’s checkpoints at Chisazima and Bua roadblocks but the owners were not traced.

Kasungu district is slowly becoming notorious with the illegal trade.

The district borders with Nkhotakota district which is famous in farming and selling of Cannabis sativa. mana
