A 27-year-old man is reported dead in Nkhata-bay after drowning in Lake Malawi where he went to swim. The incident happened at Chikale Beach.

Nkhata bay Police officials confirmed of the development in a statement and identified the deceased as Jackson Lungu.

According to the statement, on the fateful day the deceased and his fellow workers of Mzuzu Shoprite went to play social football with Nkhatabay police.

“After the match they went to Chikale Beach for swimming where the deceased drowned in the process,” reads in part the statement.

Postmortem conducted at Nkhatabay District Hospital revealed that death occurred due to suffocation.

Lungu hails from Chinichokha Village, Traditional Authority Chakhaza in Dowa district.
