10 REASONS WHY YOUR BREATH SMELLS

Are you having issues with bad breath and you don’t seem to know the reason for the bad breath?

Below are 10 reasons why your breath smells

1. YOU HAVE A CAVITY

A buildup of plaque erodes your teeth leaving you with cavities. When you eat, food can get caught in the cavities and the food remnants lingers in the cavities since the cavities are hard to clean which can then lead to bad breath.

2. ALCOHOL

Too much consumption of alcohol can lead to bad breath. A 2007 Israeli study found that drinking alcohol was linked to an increased rate of bad breath.

3. YOU BREATH THROUGH YOUR MOUTH

You can also get bad breath by breathing through your mouth. When you breathe through your mouth, your saliva evaporates which dries out your mouth.

4. SKIPPING MEALS

Skipping meals can lead to bad breath. When you don’t eat, you don’t produce as much saliva. So to avoid bad breath, you should avoid skipping meals.

5. MEDICATION

Certain medications like some antihistamines and muscle relaxants can leave you with a dry mouth which means your mouth produces a reduced amount of saliva.

6. SMELLY FOODS

Some foods you eat can leave you with bad breath. Foods like onions, garlic, and cauliflower.

7. YOU JUST WOKE UP

Another reason why you have bad breath is that you just woke up. Your saliva production slows down as you sleep, leaving you with a bad breath when you wake up.

8. SUPER-HIGH BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

If you have a blood sugar level which is super-high, this could leave you with bad breath. This is usually a sign of type 1 diabetes.

9. LOW-CARB DIET

You can have bad breath if your carbohydrate intake is really low.

10. SMOKING

Smoking can lead to bad breath because smoking increases the amount of odour-producing compounds in someone’s mouth. Smoking also leads to lower saliva production.
