A day-old baby boy was on Sunday stolen at Mntenthera Health Centre at Kamphata in Lilongwe.
Lilongwe Police Station Spokesperson, Inspector Kingsley Dandaula said the baby’s mother Mgwirizana Kambwiri left the baby with an unknown woman when she went to a bathroom.
“Kambwiri was in the maternity room where she left behind her day-old baby with unknown woman for the bathroom. Upon coming back from the bathroom, the woman and the baby had disappeared,” said Dandaula.
He said the matter was reported to Nathenje Police and investigations were still underway to arrest the suspect and to recover the baby.
Police have since called on the general public to report anyone suspiciously found with a baby.
