CSOs DEMANDS BETTER HEALTH SERVICES: TO HOLD DEMONSTRATIONS ON OCTOBER 27 IN LL

As various public hospitals across the country continue to experience acute shortage of drugs due to lack of funding from government, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have organized peaceful demonstrations to be held on October 27, 2015 to pressure for better health services delivery.

One of the Human right activists Billy Mayaya has confirmed of the development in statement posted in his official Facebook page.

In a statement seen by FaceofMalawi, Mayaya said letters for peaceful demos to demand better service delivery in the health sector has been delivered at Lilongwe Regional Police and Lilongwe DC’s office.

“Demos will be on 27th October 2015 starting from 7 am. We will congregate at Parliament roundabout and proceed to capital hotel roundabout make a uturn and proceed to traffic lights and turn left towards civic offices where a petition will be read out and handed to the minister of health Dr Peter Kumpalume.

“We will be joined by nurses and other health workers,” reads part of the statement.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has been heavily criticized for failing to put the welfare of Malawians at heart as shown on his recent bloated trip to the United Nation General Assembly where money amounting to over MK300 million was spent.

Economic experts in the country said the money could have been used to buy drugs and save several lives.
