MALAWIANS SHUN ANTI-DPP DEMONSTRATIONS STAGED IN LL

There was low turnout in the less publicized anti-President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika demonstrations held by Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the capital Lilongwe today.

The peaceful demonstrations were held against bad governance and the poor state of service delivery in the health, education and energy sectors and infringements of the right of the press by the Democratic Progress Party (DPP) regime.

The demonstrators led by Billy Mayaya, a human right activist matched from Parliament building round about to Lilongwe City Council where they presented a petition to Dyton Miladzi.

According an eyewitness, the number of Police officers deployed to provide security during the demonstrations outnumbered the number of protesters.

The eyewitness said that only five people turnout for the protest against 28 Police officers who were heavily armed.

In the petition, CSOs want the government to adequately supply all public hospital with enough drugs and provide enough funding.

The CSOs also want the DPP regime to increase allocation to the Ministry of Education so as to improve the quality of Education.

Apart from that, CSOs have asked the President to reduce his entourage when it comes to international trip and also reduce International travel.

Turning to Cashgate scandal, the CSOs have asked the DPP regime to act fast in the ongoing cashgate cases in the Malawi courts.

Meanwhile Miladzi has assured the CSOs that the petitioned will be delivered to government as soon as possible.
