GOVT REMAINS ADAMANT ON THE ABOLISHMENT OF JCE EXAMINATIONS

The government of Malawi has maintained its earlier stand of abolishment of Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) Examinations, saying this will help the government to save money amounting to MK2 billion.

Minister of Education Science and Technology Emmanuel Fabiano said this in Parliament when he was delivering a ministerial statement on the decision by government to hike secondary school fees and abolish JC exams.

Fabiano said the money saved from the exercise will help government employ 850 secondary school teachers, build 30 teachers’ houses and install 30 laboratory classes.

The Minister argued that JCE examinations is not necessary for the country as most employers focuses on MSCEs when recruiting workers for various post.

Reacting to the claims, opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera quashed the claims, saying this will weaken further the quality of education in the country.

Chakwera then distances himself and the Party from government decision to abolish the Exams.

Meanwhile the abolishment of JCE Examinations have received criticisms from all corners with others accusing government of playing double standard.
