The government of Malawi has repatriated over 150 Malawians detained at Lindera camp in South Africa.
Spokesperson for the department of Disaster and Preparedness Jeremiah Mphande confirmed of the development in an interview with press.
According to Mphande, close to 2000 Malawians are facing deportation in South Africa and are remanded at Lindera camp. The said Malawians are being chased out of South Africa for lacking proper documents.
He said the whole exercise is being done in collaboration with Ministry of Health, ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Malawi Red cross and Organisation on Migration and it will cost MK50 million.
Mphande said the group arrived in the country over the weekend through Mwanza border.
He also disclosed that the second group of Malawians will be arriving in the country on December 3.
South Africa is deporting illegal immigrants from Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi.
