THREE HARDCORE CRIMINALS ARRESTED IN LL

Police in Lilongwe on Sunday arrested three people on charges of robbery with violence and have recovered some of the stolen items.

In an interview with the Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Monday, Lilongwe Police Station Spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula said the accused are suspected to be the criminals who had been terrorizing in Areas 47, 18, 15, part of 49 and the surrounding areas.

“After interrogation, the suspects revealed the people who bought the stolen items and the police have since recovered 3 plasma screens, 10 cooking pots, 1 cooler box, 1 Samsung television set, 1 amplifier, 1 mixer, 1 Sony subwoofer, 1 Exide car battery, and 1 small speaker,” confirmed Dandaula and disclosed that the stolen items were recovered at Mtsiriza and Piyasani locations.

The Police have identified the suspects as; Richard Piyo, 21, from Chibowa village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Kachindamoto in Dedza, Elard Kaphale, 48, from Kasale village in the area of TA Kwataine in Ntcheu, Mathews Isaac Banda, 30, from Mbawala village in the area of TA Wasambo in Nkhotakota district.

The suspects are currently at Lingadzi Police pending to be charged with robbery with violence contrary to section 301 of the penal code and the recovered items are also at Lingadzi Police pending identification by the victims.

Police are further warning the general public that receiving or buying stolen property is an offence contrary to section 328 of the penal code.
