A 22 year-old Thandie Gomeza who was a commercial sex worker at Dwangwa Trading Centre in Nkhotakota died Thursday after taking excess drugs in an attempt to abort her five months pregnancy.
Nkhunga Police public relations officer Austin Kaunda confirmed that police received a report from a friend to the deceased, 29 year old Sphiwe Banda that Gomeza was pregnant but concealed her condition.
Kaunda said Banda realized her friend was in trouble a day before her death when she found her crying in agony, “That was when she revealed her condition to her friend and also disclosed that she had just taken excessive drugs to terminate the pregnancy.”
Banda in a company of another sex worker took Gomeza to Nkhunga Health Centre where she died while receiving treatment.
“Postmortem conducted at the health centre showed that Gomeza’s death was caused by poisoning,” concluded Kaunda.
The deceased hailed from Chiotcha Village, Traditional Authority Mlonyeni in Mchinji district.
