MHRC PRESSES FOR SPEEDY INVESTIGATIONS ON NJAUJU’s GRUESOME MURDER

Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has asked government to speed up investigations into the gruesome murder of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director of Corporate Services Issa Njauju.

MHRC Chairperson Justin Dzonzi made the call today during a media briefing held in the capital Lilongwe ahead of the of human rights day on Thursday.

Dzonzi said the human right body is not amused with government is handing the issue, saying if the trends continue the body will issue its on investigations on the matter.

“If the investigation takes longer, we will institute our own investigations but we don’t want to interfere with the police investigations now, we are giving them a time limit,” said Dzonzi.

Njauju was killed six months ago and only one person has since been arrested.

Speaking during the official opening of the 46th session of Parliament which came to an end last week, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika assured the nation and the people of Mangochi that his government is doing whatever it can to ensure that the suspects are brought to book.
Despite the assurance little seems to be done of the case.

Meanwhile donors and right activists have urged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to investigate the matter as soon as possible.
