A 32-year-old Rwandese businessman Jean Claude Gasana Ndahimana was on Saturday morning assaulted to death at City Centre’s Discorium Pub located at Golden Peacock Complex in Lilongwe.

Confirming the incidence to Malawi News Agency (Mana), Lilongwe Police Station Spokesperson Inspector Kingsley Dandaula said the matter started over refusal by the deceased to buy a beer for a customer at the pub.

“One person was asking for a beer from the deceased who refused and the person was told ‘go tell your father to buy you beer’, remarks which angered some people in the bar.

“The person who was refused the beer and one of the suspects approached the deceased to find out what he meant by those words [and] in the process they pushed him. Upon sensing danger, the deceased pulled out a gun and fired two shots in the air.

“The shooting of the gun angered more people in the bar and the suspects hit the deceased on the head and his gun fell on the floor and was picked by one of the suspects who also shot in the air to finish the remaining bullets before assaulting him,” explained Dandaula.

He said the victim died while being rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH). Postmortem results revealed that death was due to head injuries.

The deceased was a resident of Area 47 Sector 1 and was running a business at Bwalo la Njobvu area in Lilongwe.

Police have since arrested Tupochele Pilo, 33, from Chumba Pasala Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Jalasi in Mangochi and Henry Gulang’ombe, 36, from Chalendwa village, TA, Khongoni in Lilongwe in connection with the incident.

According to Dandaula police are still looking for some more suspects who are currently on the run.

The suspects are remanded at Maula Prison and are expected to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of the penal code.mana
