MUTHARIKA ATTENDS KENNETH KAUNDA’s GRAND- DAUGHTER’s WEDDING

The Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Malawi, Saturday night became live as three cultures collided in celebrating the wedding of Gwebe, Kenneth Kaunda’s grand-daughter, and Jimmy Komeza, a Rwandese.

The wedding reception brought together three high profile figures in Southern Africa namely, President Professor Peter Mutharika, Malawi leader, and two former Zambian leaders, Kenneth Kaunda and Rupiah Banda.

Also present were people from the three countries, Malawi, Zambia and Rwanda who all wished the newly wedded couple well as they started new life.

President Mutharika and Madame Gertrude Mutharika joined the two former Zambian leaders and the rest in the celebrations and the Malawi First Couple presented a washing machine worth MK600,000 to the new couple.

Kaunda spiced up the event with his known song of unity, urging all Africans to walk together with one spirit.

Sung Kaunda: “Tiyende pamodzi ndi mtima umodzi / Tiwoloke Zambezi ndi mtima umodzi / Tiwoloke Limpopo ndi Mtima umodzi / Africa tiye (Let’s walk together with one spirit / Let’s cross Zambezi with one spirit / Let’s cross Limpopo with one spirit / Africa let’s move).”

Special Rwanda dance added colour to the reception and communication was multi-lingual i.e. French, English, Bemba and Chichewa.

Jimmy and Gwebe are based in Malawi.mana
