DRAMA AS AN EXPLOSIVE OBJECT BLOWS OFF BOY’s HAND IN LL

An unknown explosive object on Saturday night blew off an 11 year-old boys’ hand at Mchesi Township in Lilongwe.

Confirming the incident to the Malawi News Agency (Mana), Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Kingsley Dandaula identified the victim as Lonjezo Kassim from James village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Phambala in Ntcheu district.

Dandaula said the boy was playing with some friends near Kamuzu Central Hospital Bridge where they found a round object tied with a string and picked it up to his mother’s house at Mchesi.

“When it got dark at around 20:00 hours, the boy decided to put it on fire while holding the rope and it suddenly exploded and cut off Lonjezo’s right hand,” explained Dandaula.

Meanwhile Lonjezo is admitted to the Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) where he is receiving treatment.

Police are advising parents and guardians to discourage their children from picking up unknown objects to avoid such injuries.mana
