Heavy rains accompanied with strong winds on Friday disrupted Senior Chief Ngolongoliwa’s promotion celebrations at Ntunda Wosema headquarters in Thyolo.

According to Thyolo District Commissioner Charles Thombozi, Senior Chief Ngongoliwa was promoted from Traditional Authority (T/A) to the current position on December 22, 2015.

The eyewitness told FaceofMalawi that the celebration started very well with various cultural dances and others lined up to spice the event.

Things turned sour around 3pm when heavy rains accompanied by strong winds destroyed the tent erected at the site of the celebrations, leaving all invited guest including the newly promoted chief heavily socked with rains.

The rains took close to an hour for it to stop, forcing the organisers of the event to prematurely end it.

Meanwhile reports from Rumphi and Mzimba indicate that heavy rains have destroyed houses and buildings.
