Lake of Stars postponed

In recent news, organizers of the Lake of Stars festival have announced that dates of the event have been changed.

Confirming on the matter, Lake of Stars Founder, Will Jameson said that the rearrangement of dates were announced in December last year. Instead of the event occurring on September 25 through September 27, it shall be on the 30th of the same month through the 2nd of October.

“We announced before Christmas that the dates have changed to September 30th through to October 2, 2016,” said Jameson.

“The dates are up on our homepage on the website. We are unsure so far on the venue until we start discussing contracts which won’t be until March,” said Jameson.

The Lake of Stars Festival was last year held at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi and saw performances from several local and international acts.

According to Jameson, the festival last year attracted over 80 acts from over 10 countries pulling together close to 4,500 people.

Having attracted 4,200 people in 2014, following a two year break, the festival improved the attendance with 300 people in 2015 and Jameson said the 4,500 people included 2,400 paying customers while the other figure comprised of the media and artists.

Several people expressed mixed views with the 2015 festival with some saying it lacked the much-needed pomp while others said the festival maintained its status.

But while people shared mixed views over Lake of Stars, the festival still remains the best in the country when it comes to organization.

The organizers have kept the festival strong and compact sharing roles which have seen them excelling in almost all the areas and that includes bringing in all the artists billed to perform.

Before the 2015 Lake of Stars Festival, the organizers held the Lilongwe Shorts Film and Children’s festivals, island in the sky concert and helped in other projects.
Jameson said they are also planning to hold the Lilongwe Shorts Film and Children’s festivals this year.

“We do plan to hold the children’s and film festival again. We will announce the news on those events in February or March,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jameson has said Lake of Stars is excited with the relationship between The Very Best and Senegalese musician Baaba Maal.

The Very Best made up of Swedish producer Johan Hugo and Malawian singer Esau Mwamaya will tour with Maal.

Hugo produced Maal’s album titled Traveler and will tour with him and Mumford and Sons in South Africa from next week.

The Very Best has been performing at the Lake of Stars Festival and continues to shine outside the country.
