KACHALI AIMING FOR PP PRESIDENCY

As battle for positions in the former ruling People’s Party (PP) rages on, former Malawi’s Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachali has expressed interest to context during the Paty’s next convention.

Kachali’s remarks come barely days after PP’s Interim President Uladi Mussa accused him of being behind the injunction obtained by Salim Bagus and other four top officials restraining Mussa and Kamlepo Kalua from taking up their new positions.

Speaking in an interview with one of the local daily papers in the country Daily Times, Kachali said he is not quitting Politics soon as alleged by others.

“I am a politician, an accomplished one. I’m still active in politics, very active. I have a part to play in Malawian politics. This is not time for retirement, not yet. I’m still young, I still have the energy to serve my country in any capacity,” Kachali was quoted as saying.

When pressed as to whether he is eying for PP’s Presidency, Kachali could not deny nor confirm, saying time will tell.

Kachali ditched the Party before the May 20, 2014 tripartite elections just after it was revealed that President Dr. Joyce Banda has appointed Sosten Gwengwe as her running mate in the elections.

The former President went further to endorse the then opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as the right man people should vote for during the elections.

Since then, Banda and Kachali started seeing each other as enemies.
