DRAMA IN MCP: KABWILA CONTRADICTS HER OWN PARTY OVER THE FIRED SEVEN DISTRICT CHAIRPERSONS

Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwila has faulted her own party over the firing its seven chairpersons, saying it’s undemocratic.

The Party in the Central region on Tuesday fired seven of its chairman suspected of bringing confusion within the Party by among other things accusing the Party of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of being nepotistic.

The seven district chairmen namely Mr Chisenga of Kasungu west, Mr CK Banda from Mchinji North, Mr Foloma Mwale of Mchinji North, Mr Selani of Dowa East, Mr Tengeretu of Dowa West, Mr Kachule from Lilongwe west and Mr Chichitike of Ntchisi were also being accused of advocating for an early convention.

Speaking in an interview with the press, Kabwila said she has heard the firing on the papers.

Kabwila said the party needs to embrace principles of democracy and prioritize contact and dialogue, instead of silencing every dissenting view.

“I am surprised that this has happened; it is not in line with our constitution. These people were supposed to have gone through a normal disciplinary process as rules of natural justice state. I don’t know where people at the regional committee level are getting all these powers from,” Kabwila was quoted in the Daily Times Newspaper.

Kabwila faulted the Regional officials for taking an action on seven chairpersons on the absence of the Party President currently in United States of America.
