PP OFFICIALS TO CHALLENGE COURT INJUNCTION AGAINST ULADI, KAMLEPO

As the battle for leadership in the former ruling People’s Party (PP) rages on, information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that some PP top officials are planning to vacate the injunction restraining Uladi Mussa and Kamlepo Kalua from taking up their new positions.

Three weeks ago PP’s founder and President Dr. Joyce Banda appointed Mussa as Interim President and Kalua as Third Vice President for the North.

The decision did not please certain faction of the Party led Salim Bagus who rushed to Mzuzu High Court to obtain an injunction.

Bagus and his colleagues accused Banda of flouting the procedures in an appointing the two.

But speaking in Lilongwe on Wednesday after the meeting, Mussa said the party’s lawyers are fighting the injunction.

“Our lawyers are working on vacating the injunction. Any time soon it will be vacated. There is nothing wrong constitutionally to appoint an acting president,” said Mussa.

Mussa said he is currently discharging his duties as Vice President of the Party and leader of the Party in Parliament.
