TWO BICYCLE TAXI OPERATORS ARRESTED FOR AIDING INMATE TO ESCAPE FROM MZUZU PRISON

Police in Mzuzu have arrested two bicycle taxi operators for allegedly aiding two inmates from Mzuzu prison to escape on Tuesday February 9 2016.

The development comes barely a month after an inmate was killed in the same prison while scrambling for sleeping due to overcrowding.

Northern Region Prison Publicist Austin Mwasangwale has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press and identified the escapees as Blessings Sanama from Balaka and Kondwani Nyirenda from Mzimba.

Mwasangwale said the two escaped with the help of two bicycle taxi operators.

“We could have apprehended the two, but some two bicycle taxi operators who aided them have let us down,” he said.

Meanwhile police have launched a manhunt for the two escapees.
