MCP EXPELS NINE SOUTHERN REGION COMMITTEE MEMBERS FOR CAUSING VIOLENCE

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) National Executive Committee (NEC) members have upheld the firing its nine Southern region committee members from their positions for causing violence in the meeting held last year.

The violence left the Party’s Administrative Secretary Potipher Chidaya seriously injured and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QUEH).

But after investigations and hearing from the concerned Party, MCP expelled the nine members from the party for indiscipline and leading in beating of party officials that include its own second vice president Macdonald Lombola and his wife Mrs Lombola.

Although this was the case, some of the fired members who include Robson Edson Chirwa who was Campaign Director ,Gift Dafter second organising secretary, Daniel Dambuleni Deputy organising Secretary, Desire Kambewa Deputy Youth director, Blessings Chilembwe Publicity Secretary and Mercy Issa the Youth Treasurer protested the Party’s decision.

But in a NEC meeting held on Saturday chaired by the Party’s President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, the Party upheld the decision, saying the Party decision still stands pending further investigations which will inform a substantive NEC decision.

The meeting also upheld the suspension of its seven District Committee Chairpersons in the Central Region until fresh elections are held in the respective districts.

The seven chairmen were fired from the Party for allegedly accusing the Party’s President for being nepotistic, undemocratic and the said chairmen were advocating for an early convention.

The firing of the seven district chairmen in central region resulted to division within the Party which saw the Party’s Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwila challenging the decision, saying it was undemocratic.
