MAN ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF FIREARM

A 42 year old Macpherson Jali of Ntaja Trading Center in Machinga district is arrested for possessing rifle and four live ammunitions without permission.

Machinga Police Public Relations Officer, Constable Davie Sulumba confirmed the arrest of Jali over the week.

Sulumba said police arrested the suspect after a tip off from communities around Ntaja Trading Center that had knowledge of Jali’s possession of the rifle.

The suspect hid the rifle in his maize garden ten meters from his house at Ntaja Trading Center, according to Sulumba who added that Jali will appear before court soon.

Jali’s illegal possession of the rifle is contrary to Section 12 of Fire Arms Act, the police publicist said.

The suspect’s real home is Makote Village which is closer to Liwonde National Park in Traditional Authority Liwonde in the district.
