EXPELLED FORMER BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER TO MALAWI COCHRANE-DYET NOW IN ZAMBIA

Expelled former British High Commissioner to Malawi Fergus Cochrane-Dyet has been appointed as new High Commissioner to the republic of Tanzania under President Edgar Lungu.

According to reports from Zambia, Dyet will replace Mr James Thornton, who has been transferred to another Diplomatic Service appointment.
Mr. Cochrane-Dyet is expected to take up his appointment during April 2016.

Later President Bingu wa Mutharika fired Mr. Dyet in 2011 over the leaked document he sent to UK describing Mutharika slowly sliding to a dictator.

The statement did not amuse late Mutharika who described Cochrane-Dyet as persona non grata.

Cochrane Dyet was given 48 hours to leave the country or dance to Mutharika’s tune.

The development did not go down well with the UK government which retaliated by withhold its support to the country.

The move also saw some countries like Germany and others withholding their aid to Malawi.

In desperate attempt to keep the country moving, Mutharika introduced a Zero-deficit budget which was accompanied by huge taxes imposed on Malawians in order to support the budget.
