MAN ARRESTED FOR STONING MUTHARIKA’s BILLBOARD

A 26-year old man is in police custody in Blantyre for allegedly stoning and destroying a billboard containing President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s face.

Southern Region Assistant Police spokesperson Peter Mchiza confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect as Chikondi Saidi.

It is said that the suspect was sported at Lunzu Primary School last Thursday with a pile of stones attacking the billboard by well-wishers who later reported the matter to Police.

The billboard was carrying Mutharika’s face advertising the Decent and Affordable Housing Subsidy Programme.

Mchiza said Saidi will appear in court soon, saying his action was could have provoked violence.

Saidi hails from Mazale village in Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre.
