MAN NABBED FOR POSSESSING FAKE CURRENCY

Police in Kasungu have arrested a 32-year old man for allegedly being found in possession of fake currency amounting to MK151, 000.00.

Police have confirmed of the arrest in a statement made available to FaceofMalawi and identified the suspect as Hazwel Suphuka.

According to the Police, the suspect was arrested after one of the shop owners that he approached with fake currency revealed it.

“On 26-01-16 the suspect went to a shop belonging to Hazwel Suphuka of Sopani village, T/A Chilowoko to buy milk. He produced a K1000 note which Suphuka realised was a fake one after closely looking at it. Suphuka confronted the suspect about the fake note which prompted him to fish out a K500 original note. Then the suspect demanded the alleged fake note back which Suphuka denied to give him. Later Suphuka informed other people about the matter who probed him.

“The suspect revealed that the K1000 note was indeed fake. Fearing the people who kept gathering on the scene, the suspect handed over alleged fake cash amounting to K151, 000. 00(hundred and fifty one thousand kwacha) which were in K1000 notes,” reads the statement in part.

The alleged fake currency has been sent to Reserve Bank of Malawi for examination and analysis. The suspect will appear before court soon when investigations are completed.

The suspect comes from Gaga village, T/A Lukwa in Kasungu district.
