USA SENATORS HOLD TALKS WITH MUTHARIKA

United States of America (USA) Senators Friday met President Peter Mutharika for bilateral talks and development monitoring.

Speaking during the meeting at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, President Mutharika said he was very grateful for the support the US-Government is rendering to the country.

“The USA Government has helped and contributed to the development of this country. It is helping us in the fight against HIV/Aids, maternal health, as well as relief aid to the people affected by floods in 2014/15 rainy season.

“Due to this situation, the country has been hit with food shortage in some of the districts which were affected by floods and the USA Government has been there to help us solve the problems” said Mutharika.

He further said the US-Government has helped in both fiscal and physical security and keeping peace in the country and Africa as a whole.

In his remarks, senior US Senator James Inhofe from Oklahoma said he was glad to meet the president face to face and have a talk on how the two countries could work on development issues.

“We came here because we love your president and the people of Malawi and to assure the president that the USA Government is there to assist people of this country,” said Inhofe.

USA Ambassador to Malawi Virginia Palmer said USA is looking forward to see that the support it is giving the country goes a long way in assisting the needy and families affected by HIV/Aids and strength the bilateral relationship which is there.

“The USA Government is committed to work with Malawi Government in several areas such as, education, health, agriculture among others for the beneficial of its people and we are looking at how we can expand the relationship so that a lot of Malawians can benefit,” said Palmer.

She said the senators did not only come to monitor on how the developmental projects are going on, but also to appreciate its bilateral relationship which is there between these two countries.mana
