Two car hijackers arrested, owner murdered

Mchinji Police on Tuesday arrested two men, a Malawian and a Zambian for allegedly stealing a car and murdering the owner in Chanje, Zambia.

The two suspects Shadreck Banda 21, from Chipata Zambia and Mike Phiri from Liwonde were selling the stolen car Registration number ALF 8085 Toyota Vitz at Kamwendo in the district.

Mchinji Police spokesperson Moses Nyirenda said the police got a tip from people that the two, were selling the car and they arrested them for further investigations.

“When we communicated with our Zambian counterparts, it was revealed that the vehicle was stolen at gunpoint on 27th February 2016 at Chanje in Zambia and that the owner of the vehicle Rebecca Daka was murdered in cold blood and her husband was seriously injured,” he explained.

Meanwhile the Mchinji Police are finalising investigations with the Zambian Police before finally charging the suspects.
