SHERIFFS INVADE MEC OFFICES: THREE VEHICLES IMPOUNDED

The sheriffs on Tuesday invaded Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) offices where they confiscated three vehicles due to a K18 million debt.

The development comes amid fraud by the electoral body where money amounting to MK1.5 billion is suspected to have been mismanaged by some top officials.

Judiciary spokesman Mlenga Mvula confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Mvula, MEC owes a number of firms money including Universal Trading and Trans World Radio.

Mvula said Sheriffs were acting on a warrant issued by the High court.

Effort to talk to MEC Public Relations Officer Sangwani Mwafulirwa proved futile has his mobile phone was not available.
