DPP DENIES SPONSORING THUGS TO HACK MCP SUPPORTERS IN MZUZU

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has denied hiring armed thugs to hack Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in a joint rally held on Sunday at Chibavi ground in the Northern City of Mzuzu where four MCP supporters were serious injured.

MCP together with opposition People’s Party and Alliance for Democracy (Aford) organized solidarity rally over the weekend to update Malawians for their plans once voted in into power in the forthcoming general election in 2019.

But the rally was characterized by violence as armed thugs with matchetes invaded the venue striping naked PP supporters and in the process hacked four MCP supporters including personal aide MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Speaking in an interview with the Press, MCP’s spokesperson Jessie Kabwila accused the ruling DPP of hiring the thugs to disrupt the rally.

Reacting to Kabwila’s claims, DPP spokesperson Francis Kasaila trashed the accusations, saying the Party has nothing to do with MCP affairs.

“It’s just lack of integrity on the leaders of these three parties to stand up and condemn the DPP in an unfortunate situation that it was not involved. They should be honourable enough to tell the truth. The main challenge haunting these parties is that they are being led by leaders who do not have a very good history with the truth.

“We all know that PP in the North is divided. We have a faction that is relating with the Uladi Mussa’s camp, and there is also a faction that is supporting the Khumbo Kachali camp.

“So it’s their own problem that their misunderstandings have reached to the point of hacking each other. DPP had nothing to do with their rally. It was all themselves, and how and where they are taking us in, only themselves can tell,” said Kasaila.

Meanwhile Chakwera is today scheduled to hold a media briefing on the matter.
