MCP CRIES FOUL OVER THE DEATH OF MP KANJIRA BANDA: KAMLEPO SAYS HE IS NOT AFRAID OF DEATH

As Parliamentarians continue to mourn the untimely death of Mchinji West MP Billy Kanjira Banda, opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) suspect foul play by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on the matter.

Kanjira Banda died on Sunday after collapsing in Church where he went to attend the service together with his wife and his third born child.

The MP claimed on Friday that that the government was scheming to cashgate money from the Office of the President and Cabinet to give to cabinet ministers and deputy ministers for political propaganda, an allegation that saw First Deputy Speaker Esther Mcheka Chilenje throw the legislator out of the House merciless after a prolonged misunderstanding.

Chilenje had told him to go back to parliament on Monday afternoon with evidence after he singled out Leader of the House Francis Kasaira as one of the recipients of a K50 million generous cash donation from the state for the political propaganda to prop up the unpopular government.

Speaking in an interview with MIJ Fm radio through “Good morning Malawi programme”, MCP spokesperson Jessie Kabwila said the Party is shocked with Kanjira’s death describing him as a person who always faults for the truth.

Kabwila said Kanjira’s death raises a lot of questions without answers considering the fact that he was due to deliver his evidence on his claims that DPP MPs and Cabinet Ministers were promised huge sums of money once the mid-year budget review is passed.

“As the Party we want government to explain to us what has happen to honourable late Kanjira.. wathu wapiti nanga chamutenga nchiyani?,” queried Kabwila.

Kabwila also questioned the manner how the Deputy Speaker handled the issue leading to Kanjira’s kicking out of Parliament on Friday, saying as chair of committee of supply has no powers to send any member out of the chamber.

On his part, Rumphi East MP Kamlepo Kalua also questioned Kanjira’s death, saying something is at play.

Kalua said he will not be intimidated by the ruling Party from telling Malawians the truth.

He added that he has the information that DPP, United Democratic Front (UDF) MPs and Cabinet Ministers had party over the weekend at Kamuzu Palace where they pocketed money amounting to MK100, 000 each.

Effort to talk to leader of government in parliament Francis Kasaila proved futile.
