POLICE RESCUES SUSPECTED WITCH FROM IRATE MOB IN KASUNGU

There was commotion at Linga Headquarters of Traditional Authority Mwase in Kasungu, on Tuesday, where people gathered and bayed for blood of a woman, who they accused of teaching children witchcraft.

According to Kasungu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, who identified the accused as Damalesi but did not give her full particulars for security reasons, is accused of teaching witchcraft to 20 children around the area.

“The community started chanting songs against the woman, after one boy told the people that Damalesi sends him to pick the children from their homes and take them to the ground where they play games before being taken back, “said Namwaza.

“Further, the boy said the woman gives him charms which he applies in the corners of the targeted children’s houses, so that doors open automatically for him to enter,” he added.

Chief Mwase locked the woman in his office to protect her from the angry community before calling the police.

Meanwhile, Police are still investigating the matter and have not arrested anybody, but rushed to the scene to instill order.

Damalesi comes from Dzalang’ombe village, T/A Mwase in Kasungu.
