Sierra Leone and Niger to support Malawi’s agriculture by value addition

Sierra Leone and Niger envoys have expressed willingness to support the Agriculture Sector in the country by promoting value addition.

They said this on Tuesday after presenting their letters of credence to President Peter Mutharika at the Kamuzu Palace.

High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Osman Keh Kamara, who was the first to present his papers, said Malawi and Sierra Leone share a common interest in agriculture and it would be good for the growth of the Farming industry of both countries.

“We may have differences in the staple food, (ours being Rice and Malawi’s being Maize) but we all depend on agriculture so, working together in Strengthening each other’s agriculture sector, would be the best thing to do,” said Kamara.

He added that Malawi and Sierra Leone share a similar background where they both belong to the Commonwealth, African Union and the United nations.
On her part, Ambassador of Niger, Rakiatou Mayaki said her country has pledged to offer the necessary expertise in the Agriculture sector especially in poultry farming.

She added that apart from Agriculture, they will also invest in resource minerals as both countries have Uranium and copper.

“If we strengthen these relations, we will be able to explore together and learn and benefit from each other,” she added.

Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner, Osman Keh Kamara will be based in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia while Niger’s Ambassador, Rakiatou Mayaki will be base in Pretoria, South Africa.

Envoys from France, Belgium and Israel among other countries are expected to present their letters of credence to President Peter Mutharika this week.mana
