Police in Machinga have arrested an 18 year old girl for allegedly killing a One year and Nine month baby boy by poisoning.
The police on Tuesday arrested Eliza Chaona of Mwanamai Village, Sub Traditional Authority Mchinguza in Machinga for allegedly poisoning her baby boy with termic, according to Machinga Police head of Investigation Section, Isaac Ndala.
He said Chaona did this after being criticized for returning to a man who impregnated her with her first child.
Chaona’s parents discovered that their daughter had poisoned her baby such that they took the baby to Nayuchi Health Center where it was confirmed that the baby was poisoned.
The baby who was her second born was referred to Machinga District Hospital and died on the way, according to Machinga Police who said Chaona admitted in her statement that she indeed gave the baby poison and was preparing to take it too before her parents discovered the intended suicide.
‘Chaona will answer murder charges contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code’, Ndala said.
