Guard arrested for shooting to death a man at Mbenje ADMARC

Police in Nsanje have arrested a guard for Mbenje Agriculture Development Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) deport for accidentally shooting to death a man who was called in to calm the flying tempers at the market.

Nsanje Police Spokesperson has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press and identified the guard as Anderson Katefa and the deceased as Lyson Vincent 42.

It all started when the guard was trying to restore peace at the depot by firing in the air to scare the crowd fighting for a place upfront to buy Maize at the depot.

According to reports, after firing in the air the guard forgot to close the safety catch that prevent bullets from coming out, hence shooting the deceased.

The development led to a fracas which saw the crowd looting all the maize in the depot.

Nsanje police have since confiscated the gun used by the suspect at the depot.

The suspect will appear in court to answer charges of manslaughter contrary to section 208 of Malawi’s penal code.
