Over 10 people reported dead as heavy floods wreak havoc in Mzuzu

Information reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that more than 10 people have died in the Northern City of Mzuzu due to heavy floods.

Mzuzu has for the past four days receiving continuance heavy downpours causing panic among people living around the city especially, Masasa, Chibavi, Ching’ambo and Hill Top townships.

According to reports, a house in Chibavi collapsed killing five people, four children and a mother.

Other incidences have been recorded in Hill Top and Ching’ambo where over 85 houses have collapsed.

Councillor for Chibavi Gabriel Mwaungulu has appealed for immediate assistance to the area, saying people are suffering.

Meanwhile there are fear that death toll may rise since heavy rains continue in the city.
