OVER 70 FAMILIES RENDERED HOMELESS IN KARONGA

Information reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that over 72 families have been affected by flooding at Kapolo area in the northern district of Karonga.

The development follows rains that have been pouring in the district for close to two days making Kaundi Kibwe river to overflow.

Karonga District Council officials have confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying currently the council is yet to establish the number of families affected by the floods and the extent of the damage.

The Department of Climate Change in the country has attributed the heavy rains being experienced in the district to El Nino weather.

According to the weather report seen by FOM’s reporter, indicates that the Notheren part of the country will continue to experience heavy rains.

“There is a lot of rainfall in the Northen region this week because East Africa receives a lot of rain during El Nino year.Northern half of Malawi being in the proximity of Tanzania thus benefits,” reads in part the statement.
