Tobacco sales at Kanengo Auction Floors suspended again

As Malawians continue to push for government intervention on Tobacco sales following continued low prices buyers are offering to farmers, sales at Kanengo Auction Floors has been suspended for the second time.

This year’s Tobacco Selling Season has been characterized by low prices and high rejection rate, leaving farmers with hopelessness.

On Friday last week disagreement erupted at Kanengo Auction Floors between farmers and buyers over prices with reports indicate that buyers were offering a minimum price of 80 cents and a maximum price of $1.84 per Kg.

The development led to the suspension of sales and the Auction was reopened on Monday but things did no improve.

And today the sales have been suspended again.

Meanwhile Tobacco Association of Malawi (TAMA) has summoned buyers to a round table discussion over the lower prices being offered.
