Police recruitment raises eyebrows: Ministers implicated in the mess

Information reaching faceofMalawi indicates that most newly recruited police officers in the training schools are those from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) youth cadets.

The DPP cadres in police uniform will be used to harass and intimidate people mainly in opposition strong holds during the 2019 elections.

According to information at hand, most of these youths were not among those who were shortlisted for oral and written interviews conducted across the country recently.

Worse still, most of the youths who have been included as new recruits in the training centre had fake invitation letters, which have no physical or postal address and without MSCE certificates.

On Thursday some new recruits held a vigil at Police Training School in Limbe, Blantyre to force the authorities to remove non-holders of MSCE certificate, those with fake invitation letters.

Inside sources told this publication that Minister of Information, Science and Technology Patricia Kaliati hired a vehicle carrying some youths from his district to be included in the training.

The development has also raised eyebrows among Malawians, saying most of the youths are the ones degrading the integrity of the Malawi Police Service.

The Malawi Police Service conducted written and oral interviews on the 12th and 17th of April. The new recruits are expected to report for training in all Police Training Schools on May 16, 2016 with only a grace period of two days.
