Fire guts down shops in Lilongwe

Fierce fire on Tuesday gutted down shops located near Kachikungu Bus depot in the capital Lilongwe, destroying goods worth millions.

The fire is said to have emanated from an electricity main pole near the shop that caught fire at some sparks.

Goods worth Millions plus cash is said to have been consumed by the fire.

According to an eyewitness who rushed to the scene, shop looters also took advantage of the situation to steal various items.

Police had to use teargas to disperse some looters at the scene.

Meanwhile Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) officials are yet to comment on the matter.
