Tembo intervenes in MCP’s infighting: calls for indaba

Retired Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President John Zenus Ungapake Tembo has offered to mediate in the infighting locking the party since Dr. Lazarus Chakwera took the reign of power.

Malawi’s oldest party has recently been embroiled in the power struggle with others especially district chairman calling for convention, accusing Chakwera of being undemocratic and practicing nepotism.

The district chairman went further by taking court injunction but MCP’s leadership vacated the injunction and in retaliation the Party fired some of the people involved in the matter.

The whole issue started when Chakwera made some changes to the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) members which saw Felix Jumbe being demoted.

The reshuffle also saw Chakwera including new faces in the NEC and the new faces included former deputy minister of Finance Cornelius Mwalwanda and former Blantyre City Central MP Eunice Makangala who served in Cabinets of former presidents Bingu wa Mutharika (deceased) and Joyce Banda under the banners of DPP and PP.

Since the reshuffle, the party has seen endless infighting with Jumbe and others on the forefront.

Speaking with Zodiak Broadcasting Station, Tembo said he is no pleased with the infighting going on within the Party.

Tembo said he will do whatever he can to makesure that peace prevails in the Party.
