MCP squabbles: lawyer for expelled officials attacked by Chakwera’s thugs

As battle for leadership continues in the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Information reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that lawyer representing disgruntled an MCP member who was recently fired from the party, Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma was on Thursday roughed up by purported guards at MCP headquarters in Lilongwe.

Mr. Jolamu Mpangeni from the law firm run by Chancy Gondwe went to the office to serve MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera with court documents in which Chidzanja Nkhoma is suing Dr. Chakwera for defamation and illegal expulsion.

The injunction was aimed at restraining Chakwera and other MCP officials from expelling Chatinkha from the Party.

But upon arriving to the headquarters, Mpangeni was welcomed by Chakwera’s thugs who beat him severely.

Chatinkha confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local media house in the country.

She said her lawyer was beaten in full view of Chakwera and other MCP bigwigs.

The Party fired Chatinkha, Salima Central lawmaker Felix Jumbe and seven other officials from the Party for allegedly bringing confusion in the Party.

The Party also suspended its spokesperson Jessie Kabwila and Joseph Njobvuyalema for allegedly having a hand in the botched torching of MCP headquarters.
