Natural Resources College closed indefinitely over strike by students

Natural Resources College, a constituent college of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) has been closed indefinitely following a violent protest by students.

In the morning students at the College took to the street protesting against the fee hike which the management announced on Monday.

The students decorated the roads to the campus with burning tyres and stones while others chanted anti-fee hike songs.

It took the intervention of the armed Police who used teargas to disperse the angry students.

In a statement seen by FaceofMalawi, Council for LUANAR said the college has been closed due to the illegal demonstration by the students.

LUANAR Vice Chancellor, George Kanyama Phiri said the management is shocked with the conduct of the students hence the closure.

Meanwhile it is not known as to when the college will be re-opened.
